Alright....so I have been sitting here for a few hours contemplating myself, came up with some good thoughts and all that jazz, and I remembered an idea I had once. A few years ago, I talked to a few friends of mine about a roadtrip across the country. It was inspired, oddly enough, by Eugene, OR. See, I had heard that the coastline of Oregon is some of the most beautiful country that the world has to offer. It was a time I had dreams of my own for myself...a time when I had direction. I wanted to look upon those cliffs and rocks and hopefully they would greet me warmly knowing that I was on the right track. I gave up on that goal of such a roadtrip because of financial stuffs as well as other commitments. After hearing James recall his cross-country trip to Cali and whatnot, I was reminded that I had wanted to do something similar. I think I'm going to do that. I want to get a couple people together.....and travel across the country. I want to see the mountains again....real mountains. I want to gaze upon the horizon in Nevada and Utah and see plateaus that seem like bumps far off but are hundreds of feet high up close. I want to see those rolling fields of wheat and corn as I travel through America's heartland. I want to see the evergreen forests of the northwest again. I so want to see the coast of Oregon....rocky cliifs of black, grey, and white with waves crashing against them. I want to go on an adventure and find out things I never knew about this country and myself.
I write this post not as a call to folks to come with me (although you are welcome to voice an opinion one way or another). I plan on going...although I'm not sure when or with who. I just want to go. I am posting because I am in need of roadtrip music ideas. I have some rough ideas in my head what music I would like to bring to supplement the experience of listening to radio stations all around the country. I am a huge classics fan and love mellow stuff. However, I am really open to anything. Please reply with any roadtrip music ideas you may have. Picture yourself driving down the road and the music you would want to accompany you on your journey. Tell whoever you want about this post and get them to reply. Any and all comers are welcome to suggest ideas for tunes. Man....I can smell the salt spray now. Yep....gonna be a fun trip whenever I go and whoever I go with.

aaaand, I'd be willing to come along, but it would have to be next summer sometime when I can take extended periods of time off, because I don't think a week in winter break, or spring break would really be enough for a cross country extravaganza. That, and there is no way I can manage it anytime before January anyway. So, yeah. If you want me to tag along, plan for then, but I do understand if you go sooner when the opportunity arises.

I love the James "Laid" album, but it's a little weird for people not used to James.
Sarah McLachlan's "Fumbling Towards Ecstacy" and "Surfacing" are good too, but I wouldn't suggest it if you're struggling to stay awake.

When you start making plans, if you'd like, I can ask him for some suggestions of places to stop that might be off the beaten path, along with any other tips and such he has from his trip.
Honestly though, I'd suggest maybe dipping up or down into the midwest, but not driving straight through it. I did Atlanta to the very northwest corner of Illinois once, and trust me, after that 4th hour of nothing but corn, the neat-factor has worn off. *grin* However, I think John Mellencamp's "The Best That I Could Do" would make an excellent soundtrack for some midwest driving.
